April 1852 CE
Juan Bautista Alberdi decides, after Rosas is overthrown, not to return to Argentina but instead to remain in Chile.
In his Bases y puntos de patida para la organización politica de la republica Argentina (“Bases and Starting Points for the Political Organization of the Argentine Republic”), Alberdi lays out many of the principles that will be incorporated into next year’s Argentine constitution.
In this and other writings, Alberdi emphasizes the need for a strong federal system of government and argues the economic necessity of encouraging immigration and foreign investment.
He begins service as a diplomat in Europe and the U.S. for Urquiza.
