Ferdinand VII of Spain has been detained…
December 1813 CE
A beleaguered and desperate Napoleon, recognizing the impossibility of retaining his hold on Spain after his crushing defeat at Leipzig in October, agrees to a separate peace with Spain on December 11 by the Treaty of Valençay, under which he will release and recognize Ferdinand as King of Spain in exchange for a complete cessation of hostilities.
The Spanish have no intention of trusting Napoleon, however, and the fighting continues on into France.
