“Alexios IV” is crowned on August 1 as coemperor with his father, blind and now senile, who is restored to the throne as Isaac II.

A fire started by Flemish crusaders burns down the Jewish quarter, including the synagogue, on August 19.

A few crusaders leave, but most do not.
