Alexis I, born in Moscow on March…
July 1645 CE
Alexis I, born in Moscow on March 8, 1629, to Tsar Michael and Eudoxia Streshneva, on July 12, 1645, at the age of sixteen accedes to the throne after his father's death.
Alexis is committed to the care of the boyar Boris Morozov, a shrewd and sensible guardian sufficiently enlightened to recognize the needs of his country, and by no means inaccessible to Western ideas.
Morozov, his foreign policy pacific, secures a truce with Poland and carefully avoids complications with the Ottoman Empire.
His domestic policy is scrupulously fair and aims at relieving the public burdens by limiting the privileges of foreign traders and abolishing a great many useless and expensive court offices.
