Alfonso V has been an active participant in Italian politics, to the neglect of the kingdom of Aragon.
A notable patron of Renaissance humanists, he receives the nickname Alfonso the Magnanimous.
At his death on June 27, 1458, he leaves Aragon and Sicily to his brother, who rules as John II, and Naples to his illegitimate thirty-five year old son, who reigns as Ferdinand I.

Ōta Dōkan is best known as the architect and builder of Edo Castle (now the Imperial Palace) in what is today modern Tokyo.
A samurai warrior-poet, military tactician and Buddhist monk, he is considered the founder of the castle town which is to grow up around that Ōnin era fortress.
