Various groups with a multiplicity of goals…
March 1821 CE
Various groups with a multiplicity of goals and interests throughout the region, united by a crude plan of action, pursue the revolution in Greece as it develops.
Phanariote rule in Wallachia and Moldavia, where Ypsilantis and his army of forty-five hundred men are located, has led the Greek nationalists to view the principalities as possible components of a renascent Byzantine Empire.
Hostilities are to begin in and focus on Moldavia and Wallachia as the first step in the plan to extricate Greece from Ottoman domination.
Once these areas have been liberated, the rest will follow.
Shortly after Ypsilantis crosses the Prutische (Prut) River from Russian Moldavia into Ottoman territory in March 1821, the uprising spreads throughout much of the peninsula.
