1888 CE to 1899 CE

A new young Bugandan kabaka, Mwanga, attempts to halt the dangerous foreign ideologies that he sees threatening the state, and is deposed by the armed converts in 1888.

A four-year civil war ensues in which the Muslims are initially successful and proclaim an Islamic state.

They are soon defeated, however, and are unable to renew their effort.
