Caravaggio returns to Naples after only nine …
Years: 1609 - 1609
Caravaggio returns to Naples after only nine months in Sicily.
According to his earliest biographer, he was being pursued by enemies while in Sicily and felt it safest to place himself under the protection of the Colonnas until he can secure his pardon from the pope (now Paul V) and return to Rome.
In Naples he paints The Denial of Saint Peter and a final John the Baptist (Borghese).
