June 1776 CE
A messenger he had sent downriver toward Sorel on June 15 for news from General Sullivan had spotted Carleton's fleet, escaped to shore, and returned with the news to Montreal on a stolen horse.

Carleton's fleet arrives in Montreal on June 17.
