Lieutenant Colonel Henry S. Burton marches out following reinforcement, unaware that the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo had been signed in February 1848 and a truce agreed to on March 6.
His forces rescue captured Americans, capture Pineda, and, on March 31, defeat and disperse remaining Mexican forces at the Skirmish of Todos Santos.
When the American garrisons are evacuated to Monterey following the treaty ratification, many Mexicans go with them: those who had supported the American cause and had thought Lower California would also be annexed along with Upper California.
