Florentine painter Cennino di Drea Cennini writes, in around 1390, “Il libro dell'arte,” or “The Craftsman's Handbook,” an important document of the practice and direction of Italian art during the fourteenth century.
In the work, Cennini also offers insight into Giotto's innovative ideas, as transmitted through Taddeo and Agnolo Gaddi, then to Cennini, himself a pupil of Agnolo.
