French writer Michel de Montaigne, to please…
1568 CE
French writer Michel de Montaigne, to please his father, to whom he is devoted, has undertaken a translation of the Natural Theology of fifteenth-century Catalan theologian Raymond Sebond.
His father dies in 1568, and Montaigne’s translation sees print early in 1569 as his first published work.
Montaigne inherits his father’s title and the family chateau near Bordeaux.
