February 1573 CE
Gubec is captured after the defeat at Stubičko Polje, and taken to Zagreb, where on February 15, he is publicly tortured, forced to wear a red-hot iron crown and is subsequently quartered.
The revolt and torture of Gubec will acquire legendary status in Croatia and Slovenia, inspiring many writers and artists, including the writer Miroslav Krleža, the poet Anton Aškerc and the sculptors Antun Augustinčić and Stojan Batič.
A museum near Oršić Castle in Gornja Stubica and one in Krško (Slovenia) are dedicated to the revolt.
