December 1936 CE
Haganah Bet, commanded by Abraham Tehomi, who had split with the Haganah five years earlier, signs an agreement with Jabotinsky on December 5, 1936, according to which Tehomi will command under Jabotinsky's political guidance.
Haganah Bet, soon to become the Irgun Tzvai Leumi, regards armed force as a prerequisite for the creation of a Jewish state, that Arabs who attack Jews should expect retaliation, and that no one has a right to prevent Jews from immigrating to Palestine.
The first of the Tower and Stockade Settlements, Tel Amel, (modern day Kibbutz Nir David) is erected on December 10, 1936 as a Jewish response to Arab attacks.
Built of prefabricated wood, on remote parcels of land purchased by the Jewish National Fund, the settlement is set up almost overnight with the help of hundreds of volunteers.
