Heraclius prepares to leave Constantinople and moves…
619 CE
Heraclius prepares to leave Constantinople and moves the imperial capital to Carthage, but is persuaded to stay by Sergius I, patriarch of Constantinople.
He begins to rebuild the imperial army with the aid of funds of Church treasures.
The Avars attack the outskirts of Constantinople.
Heraclius, overlooking the Avars' perfidy, finally makes peace with them in 619; he is now free to take the offensive against the Persians.
