January 1880 CE
The Romanian Parliament votes to transfer the ownership of the Varciorova-Roman rail line from the private administration of the Strousberg consortium to state ownership, under the administration of the newly organized Romanian Railways (Caile Ferate Romain, or CFR), in January 1880.
The Romanian state, having annexed the Dobruja, places under the management of CFR the Constanta-Cernavoda line, which had been opened during Ottoman times in 1860, together with the Bucharest-Giurgiu line, the first line constructed in the Kingdom of Romania.
Although Romania’s 1878 amendments to the discriminatory laws have left many loopholes, the European powers in 1880 recognize Romania's independence.
