Bonaparte is elected a member of the French Academy of Sciences in May 1798.
His Egyptian expedition includes a group of one hundred and sixty-seven scientists: mathematicians, naturalists, chemists and geodesists among them; their discoveries include the Rosetta Stone, and their work will be published in the Description de l'Égypte in 1809.
