The Ottoman fortress of Özi (Ochakiv), at the mouth of the Dnieper, falls on December 6, 1788 after a six-month siege by Prince Grigori Potemkin and Suvorov and a murderous storm with a temperature of -23 degrees C.

All civilians in the captured cities are massacred by order of Grigory Potemkin.
