The Sikhs are made to give up Kashmir in the Treaty of Lahore in 1846, and have to accept a British resident in Lahore.

This effectively gives the East India Company control of the Kashmir's government.

The Treaty also surrenders the Koh-i-Noor diamond to Queen Victoria.
