James V, King of Scots, is finally…
1528 CE
James V, King of Scots, is finally released from the care of his stepfather Archibald Douglas, 6th Earl of Angus, in 1528 and assumes the reins of government himself.
His first action as king is to remove Angus from the scene.
The Douglas family are forced into exile and James besieges their castle at Tantallon.
He then subdues the Border rebels and the chiefs of the Western Isles.
As well as taking advice from his nobility and using the services of the Duke of Albany in France and at Rome, James has a team of professional lawyers and diplomats, including Adam Otterburn and Thomas Erskine of Haltoun.
Even his pursemaster and yeoman of the wardrobe, John Tennent of Listonschiels is sent on an errand to England, though he receives a frosty reception.
