Kearney and three hundred dragoons begin their march to California on September 25, 1846.

The celebrated guide Kit Carson, returning from California, informs Kearney in Socorro, New Mexico, that the conquest of California is nearly complete.

Kearney sends two hundred of his men to Santa Fe and continues on to California with Carson as his guide.
