November 1846 CE
The Donner Party, a wagon train of eighty-seven American settlers traveling to California, is stranded in the Sierra Nevada mountains by the first of several snowstorms on November 4, 1846.
By the time a relief party reaches the starving settlers three months later, only forty-eight survivors will be left, many of whom have survived by cannibalism.
