February 1791 CE
On February 24, 1791, a large group of alarmed and confused protesters goes to the Tuileries Palace where the King is residing, seeking to petition him to recall his aunts.
The mayor of Paris, Jean Sylvain Bailly, attempts to act as an intermediary by offering to allow a smaller contingent of twenty delegates into the palace to see the King.
However the National Guard, led by Lafayette, remains firm in not allowing anyone in and disperses the crowd after a three-hour standoff.
