Vast tracts of land are handed out to the king's supporters.

Churches are closed, cathedral schools terminated, and recalcitrant priests turned out of their parishes.

Catholic bishops are imprisoned unless they agree to marry and give up their privileges.

Some will submit only after after years of imprisonment; others refuse to accept the New Faith and become martyrs.
