October 1565 CE
The noted Italian mathematician Lodovico Ferrari has retired young (he is only forty-two) and quite rich.
He has moved back to his home town of Bologna where he lives with his widowed sister Maddalena to take up a professorship of mathematics at the University of Bologna in 1565.
He dies shortly thereafter, on October 5, of white arsenic poisoning, allegedly murdered by his greedy sister.
