Carsten Egeberg Borchgrevink and Henrik Bull, Norwegian…
January 1895 CE
Carsten Egeberg Borchgrevink and Henrik Bull, Norwegian explorers sailing on the whaler Antarctic from Australia, lead the first landing party to set foot on the Antarctic mainland at Cape Adare, Victoria Land, on January 23, 1895, collecting geological specimens.
Captain James Ross discovered Cape Adare in January 1841 and named it after his friend the Viscount Adare (the title is derived from Adare, Ireland).
