Stark is not the only beneficiary of…
August 1777 CE
Baum's force grows by almost one hundred when a group of local Loyalists arrives in his camp on the morning of August 16.
On the afternoon of August 16, the weather clears, and Stark orders his men to be ready to attack.
Upon hearing that the militia has melted away into the woods, Baum assumes that the Americans are retreating or redeploying.
However, Stark has decided to capitalize on weaknesses in the German's widely distributed position, and has sent sizable flanking parties to either side of his lines.
These movements are assisted by a ruse employed by Stark's men that enable them to get closer safely without alarming the opposing forces.
The Germans, most of whom speak no English, have been told that soldiers with bits of white paper in their hat are Loyalists, and should not be fired on; Stark's men have also heard this and many of them have suitably adorned their hats.
