Sigismund had planned to return to Sweden,…
January 1599 CE
Sigismund had planned to return to Sweden, which raised morale among his followers, but these plans will never be put into action.
Te war has not yet ended; it will continue for a few months, as Charles tries to reclaim the cities that are still in Sigismund’s hands.
He starts by appointing a new city government in Stockholm; he then scolds the burghers, who he claims hadn’t defended the city enough.
It ends in the jailing of several people, among them Archbishop Abraham Angermannus, who had supported Sigismund.
