December 1852 CE
Spain’s Juan Bravo Murillo, flush with economic and international successes, announces a series of policies to the cortes on December 2, 1852.
Prominent among the reforms he suggests are the reduction of the powers of the cortes as a whole in favor of Murillo's office as president of the government, and the ability for the executive to legislate by decree in times of crisis.
Twelve days later, the cortes successfully persuade the queen, Isabella II, to sack Murillo and find a new minister.
