Greek Cypriots, especially members of organizations such as EOKA, express disappointment because enosis has not been attained.
Turkish Cypriots, however, welcome the agreements and set aside their earlier defensive demand for partition.
According to the Treaty of Establishment, Britain retains sovereignty over about two hundred and fifty-six square kilometers, which become the Dhekelia Sovereign Base Area, to the northwest of Larnaca, and the Akrotiri Sovereign Base Area, to the west of Limassol.
Britain also retains certain access and communications routes.
