Le Cap seems to be the last…
December 1803 CE
Rochambeau recaptures it but at the height of the battle some twelve hundred blacks being held prisoner on a ship in the bay throw its crew overboard.
The French had been defeated at the battle of Vertières by the rebel general Jean-Jacques Dessalines on November 18, 1803, near the Cap, and at the end of December the last French soldiers leave the island.
On their voyage back to France, Rochambeau is captured at the Blockade of Saint-Domingue by the British and will then be interned in Britain for nearly nine years as a parole prisoner.
