The architect Mauro Codussi dies at sixty-four during construction of his design for the Ca' Vendramin Calergii, located along Venice’s Grand Canal.

The palace, begun in 1501 and designed in the Lombardesque style with a more open plan than the palaces of central Italy, features large and numerous windows.
