An exhausted Theodor Herzl dies of pneumonia in 1904, and from this time on the mantle of Zionism is carried by the cultural Zionists led by Ahad Ha'am and his close colleague, Chaim Weizmann.
They take over the WZO, increase support for Hibbat Tziyyon, and seek Jewish settlement in Palestine as a prerequisite to international support for a Jewish state.
