Doiron and his family embark on October 20 on the ill-fated transport the Duke William with over three hundred and sixty Acadians on board.
Of the three thousand deportees included, roughly six hundred had been shipped over to Ile Royale earlier and then sent across the Atlantic well before November 4 on the Mary.
Almost half of the people on board the Mary die of disease, most of them children.
Historian Earle Lockerby estimates that two hundred and fifty-five out of five hundred and sixty passengers died.
