British marines and regular infantry (under the covering fire of the Royal Navy) flank and destroy the Chinese defenses guarding the river on August 26.

Several large British ships fail to destroy the largest of the Chinese batteries (which withstands over twelve thousand cannonballs being fired at it), so the position is scaled and captured by the British infantry.
