The Carlists rise again in Catalonia in support of Carlos VI, the elder son of Infante Don Carlos María Isidro and of his first wife María Francisca de Bragança, in an attempt to install him on the Spanish throne.

This second Carlist War, beginning in September 1846, is known also as the War of the Matiners or Madrugadores (Catalan and Spanish for "early-risers," so-called from the harassing action that took place at the earliest hours of the morning),
