Julius Kessler, born in Budapest, Hungary in 1855, had come to America to make his fortune, founding Kessler Whisky in the 1870s in Leadville.
By coaxing pack mules over the hills from Denver, he gets his whiskey to Leadville, where it retails at $2 for three fingers.
In the early days, to get his product out, Kessler goes from saloon to saloon selling the whiskey.
Kessler will eventually acquire and become president of the Distiller's Securities Corporation, also known as the "Whiskey Trust”.
