The Duke William had become separated from…
December 1758 CE
Stormy weather had continued for several weeks.
Almost two weeks after the ships were separated, late in the day on December 10, the Duke William had re-encountered the Violet, which was taking in water.
During the night the Duke William sprang a leak and the Acadians assisted at the pumps.
After a brief squall in the morning on December 11, the Violet, a ship of three hundred and fifteen tons and eight cannons, under command of captain Benjamin Suggit, sinks with with the all hands lost.
