1538 CE
The feast commemorating Thomas Becket’s death had been suppressed in 1536 at the Reformation.
The shrine in the Trinity Chapel at Canterbury Cathedral stands until it is destroyed in 1538, during the Dissolution of the Monasteries, on orders from King Henry VIII.
The king also destroys Becket's bones and orders that all mention of his name be obliterated.
The pavement where the shrine stood is today marked by a lit candle.
