The impoverished King has no choice but…
November 1640 CE
The impoverished King has no choice but to summon a fresh English Parliament to grant him the supplies which he needs to make this payment.
This body, which gathers in Westminster in November under the leadership of John Pym, is to prove just as difficult for Charles as the Short Parliament and become the Long Parliament of the Civil War which is not to disperse finally until 1653, having gathered the king's head along the way.
The crisis that had originated in Scotland helps to spark the Wars of the Three Kingdoms from 1641-1653, which includes the English Civil War, the Irish Confederate Wars and a like civil war in Scotland.
