Serious provincial rebellions become endemic in the kingdom of Silla, and in 935 Korea’s upstart Goryeo dynasty overthrows the kingdom.

King Gyeongsun, the last king of Unified Silla, formally surrenders to Wang Geon, bringing to an end the Silla kingdom.

The Goryeo Dynasty begins.

Gyeon Hwon, the king of Hubaekje, is overthrown by his eldest son Singeom.

He and his two brothers, Yanggeom and Yonggeom, place Gyeon Hwon in prison, but he is able to escape.

The German kingdom integrates the Bohemian state, ruled at this time by Duke Wenceslas of the Czech Przemysl dynasty.

Wenceslas’ continuation of the Christianization of Bohemia, coupled with his submission to German king Henry I, arouses strong opposition from a faction of the nobility, and leads to his assassination on September 28, 935, by his brother, who succeeds him as Prince Boleslaw.

(The date will become the annual feast day of the later canonized Wenceslas, whom the Czechs will come to regard as their patron saint.)

Al-Hasan ibn Abdallah is the eldest son of Abu'l-Hayja Abdallah ibn Hamdan (died 929), son of Hamdan ibn Hamdun ibn al-Harith, who gave his name to the Hamdanid dynasty.

Hasan's father Abdallah had served as emir (governor) of Mosul in 905/6–913/4, was repeatedly disgraced and rehabilitated as the political situation changed in Baghad, until resuming control of Mosul in 925/6.

Enjoying firm relations with the powerful commander of the caliphal army, Mu'nis al-Khadim, in 929 he had played a leading role in the short-lived usurpation of Al-Qahir (who would later reign as caliph in 932–934) against Al-Muqtadir (r. 908–932), and was killed during its suppression.

According to the researcher Marius Canard, Abdallah had established himself as the most prominent member of the first generation of the Hamdanid dynasty, and is essentially the founder of the Hamdanid Emirate of Mosul.

During his absence in Baghdad in his final years from 920/921 on, Abdallah had relegated authority over Mosul to Hasan.

After Abdallah's death, however, al-Muqtadir had taken the opportunity to avenge himself upon the Hamdanids, and appointed an unrelated governor over Mosul, while Abdallah's domains were divided among his surviving brothers.

Faced with the claims of his uncles, Hasan had been left in charge of a small portion, on the left bank of the Tigris.

In 930, after the caliph's governor died, Hasan had managed to regain control over Mosul, but his uncles Nasr and Sa'id soon removed him from power and confined him to the western parts of the Diyar Rabi'a.

In 934, Hasan again recovered Mosul, but Sa'id, residing in Baghdad and supported by the caliphal government, had evicted him again.

Hasan had fled to Armenia, from where he orchestrated Sa'id's murder.

Only then did his troops occupy Mosul and establish him permanently as its ruler.

Finally, after defeating caliphal forces under the wazir Ibn Muqla and the Banu Habib, his rivals among the Taghlib, in late 935 the Caliph al-Radi is forced to formally recognize him as governor of Mosul and the entire Jazira, in exchange for an annual tribute of seventy thousand gold dinars and supplies of flour for the two caliphal capitals of Baghdad and Samarra.

Córdoba, capital of Al-Andalus, becomes in 935 the largest city of the world, taking the lead from Baghdad, capital of Abbasid caliph al-Muqtadir.

The Fatimids fail in a third attempt to conquer Egypt in 935.

King Harald Finehair had determined to remove his youngest son out of harm's way and accordingly had sent him to the court friend, King Athelstan of England, who had fostered by Haakon as part of a peace agreement made by his father, for which reason Haakon was nicknamed Adalsteinfostre.

The English king had brought him up in the Christian religion.

Haakon, on news of his father's death in 930, had been previsioned by King Athelstan with ships and men for an expedition against his half-brother Eirik Bloodaxe, who had been proclaimed king.

Eric', whose rule is reputedly harsh and despotic,had fallen rapidly out of favor with the Norwegian nobility.

At Haakon arrives back in Norway, he gains the support of the landowners by promising to give up the rights of taxation claimed by his father over inherited real property.

Eirik Bloodaxe soon finds himself deserted on all sides, and saves his own and his family's lives by fleeing from the country, initially to the Orkney Islands.

A charter is attested in 935 by Constantine, Owain of Strathclyde, Hywel Dda, Idwal Foel, and Morgan ap Owain.

Owain is once more at Æthelstan's court at Christmas of the same year, along with the Welsh kings, but Constantine is not.

His return to England less than two years later will be in very different circumstances.

The Later Tang Dynasty falls to the Later Jin Dynasty, founded by Shi Jingtang (posthumously known as Gaozu of Later Jin) in China.

Shi Jingtang is enthroned on November 28, 936, as the first emperor of the Later Jin Dynasty by Emperor Taizong of Liao, following a revolt against Emperor Fei of Later Tang.

The Japanese government dispatches Sumitomo, of the Fujiwara family, west in 936 to subdue the pirates that have long menaced commerce on the Inland Sea.

Succeeding in this, he and his followers now commence to plunder the western provinces themselves in defiance of imperial orders.
