The Lipizzaner, a breed of horse founded…
1587 CE
The Lipizzaner, a breed of horse founded in 1580 of Spanish, Arabian, and Berber ancestry, derives its name from the Austrian imperial stud farm located near the Kras village of Lipica (spelled "Lipizza" in Italian), in modern-day Slovenia.
The Lipizzaner is today closely associated with Vienna’s Spanish Riding School, where the finest representatives demonstrate the haute ecole or "high school" movements of classical dressage, including the highly controlled, stylized jumps and other movements known as the "airs above the ground."
