December 1790 CE
In March 1790, the Russians had begun besieging the reportedly "impenetrable" Ottoman fortress of Izmail at the entrance of the Danube, in the region of Budjak (now in Ukraine).
Suvorov has thirty-one thousand troops and on the morning of December 22, 1790, the Russians begin attacking the city, which has a garrison of forty thousand soldiers.
The Russians bombard Izmail until 3:00 A.M, then storm it at 5:30 A.M, advancing on the north, east, and west.
By 8:00 A.M. the Russians have entered the city.
In total the Ottoman forces lose more than twenty-six thousand killed with the whole garrison being killed, wounded or captured.
The Russian forces suffer only forty-three hundred and thirty casualties, out of which eighteen hundred and fifteen have been killed.
Meanwhile, the Russians continue their advance when Suvorov captures the reportedly "impenetrable" Ottoman fortress of Ismail at the entrance of the Danube, in December 1790.
