Danks himself begins to pursue the Acadians…
July 1758 CE
Arriving at present day Moncton, Danks’ Rangers ambush about thirty Acadians, who are led by Joseph Broussard (Beausoleil).
Many of the Acadians are driven into the river, three of them are killed and scalped, and others are captured.
Broussard is seriously wounded.
Danks reports that the scalps were Mi’kmaq and receives payment for them.
Hereafter, he will go down in local lore as “one of the most reckless and brutal” of the Rangers. (While the French pay Mi'kmaq for British scalps, the British pay New England Rangers for Mi'kmaq scalps.)
