Haitian politics becomes more lucrative as property…
1840 CE to 1851 CE
Haitian politics becomes more lucrative as property values decline.
Mulattoes in the Senate, including Beaubrun Ardouin and his brothers, rule behind the scenes between 1844 and 1849, installing a series of black leaders and taking the profit.
The first is the eighty-seven-year-old Philippe Guerrier (1844-45), who had been a member of the peerage under Christophe.
He is succeeded in short order, by Jean-Louis Pierrot (1845-46) and Jean-Baptiste Riche (1846-47).
