This sinking had been followed by the loss of the brig Ann on another reef in March 1842.
The survivors of both ships had been captured and marched to southern Taiwan, where they have been imprisoned.
One hundred and ninety seven are executed by Qing authorities on August 10, 1842, while an additional eighty-seven have died from ill-treatment in captivity.
This will become known as the Nerbudda incident.
