Russia acquires Sukhumi from the Ottoman Empire…

Russia acquires Sukhumi from the Ottoman Empire through a treaty with the pro-Russian Abkhazian prince: after Russian Marines storm the town in 1810, Russia declares a protectorate over the whole of Abkhazia. Sukhumi will subsequently become a major outpost in the North West Caucasus.
