The effect of the extended barrage destroys the will of the Mexican side to fight against a numerically superior force, and they surrender the city after twelve days under siege.

U.S. troops suffer eighty casualties, while the Mexican side has around one hundred and eighty killed and wounded, about half of whom are civilian.
