Bligh, at a formal court-martial in October 1790 for the loss of Bounty, is honorably acquitted of responsibility for the loss and is promoted to post-captain.

As an adjunct to the court martial, Bligh brings charges against Purcell for misconduct and insubordination; the former carpenter receives a reprimand.
