Thomas Edison’s Company combines with other firms in 1892 to form the General Electric Corporation, one of the largest manufacturers in the United States.
Edison’s continuous opposition to the switching of the power stations from direct current to alternating current blocks the considerable increase in transmission voltages that alternating current will ultimately enable.
The General Electric Company is established, through the merger of the Thomson-Houston Company and the Edison General Electric Company, on April 15, 1892.
